This Bruichladdich Octomore 02.2 Orpheus in black and red, 70cl bottle with a silver top in a red box is a good show-case for the ranges packaging. The 2 is fully black. Most of the other releases are in black only.

This is (or was at the time, at 140 ppm ?) “the worlds most heavily peated whisky”. It is aged in barrels from a top Bordeaux vineyard called “Château Pétrus”. It is released in 6000 numbered bottles at an abv of 61%. It actually has a young age of only 5 years.

Recommended retail price starting from £89, €106 to well over £275 or €330,-

  1. Every bottling design in this range stands out in its own right. However, you can also see a development in the packaging design, like if the people behind it want to ‘tell a story’ (deliberately or not). The range started in ‘all black’ with an opaque black bottle. Quite characteristic for this distillery, which is gleefully playing with its magic / emotional / seductive image. Now, the latest Octomore release is ‘all white’, with an almost transparent, frosted glass bottle. The (official) story behind the COMUS: “innocence, virtue and reason winning over brooding temptation and hedonistic excess” But also: “Do not be deceived, all is not what it seems”. Honi soit qui mal y pense … ;-) Will be exciting to follow this story …

  2. We first found prices well over €250.
However most releases cost less en the range starts with a recommended retail price of £89, €106 and got to well over £275 or €330,-

Hence we have moved this bottle from Category-2 into Category-1.
