Nominations and discussions 2012 – all-time — 11 Comments

  1. A long time ago I was very satisfied with blended whisky’s; for example BNJ, Teachers, Ballantines, JWGreen and Black etc. Nowadays, I prefer The Scotch Single Malt whisky’s ;-) But here’s a very nice picture of some Dewar’s:  Dewars

  2. I like the “pinched” bottle of Cardhu with its “heavy” wooden top.
I am not sure if the new design is an improvement over the “old” version.
As they are very different, I propose to nominate them both (if you can find the old design).

    • The old and current designs are very different indeed.
I myself actually poses the old box but without the bottle !
      I already found good photo’s.
      Thanks,

  3. The Matisse Spirits Company Limited Scotch whisky range has been nominated in Category-1. Thanks!

P.s. The Macallan is still on the to-do list. There are hundreds of 21yo fine oak but none with the bird so far!

    • Macallan 21yo found. Will be nominated.
See the reply from and to ForWhiskeyLovers.

Following, for completeness, some of the “old forum” posts:

      “Isle of Arran Sleeping Warrior”
The Arran Malt Sleeping Warrior is a limited edition of only 6,000 bottles worldwide, and is uniquely collaborated with the National Trust for Scotland. This single malt was bottle at natural casks strength of 54.9% and was combined in ex-sherry casks, bourbon and red wine casks. This malt was also non chill-filtered and has no artificial colouring.
“The stunning profile of the summits and ridges on the north-end of the Isle of Arran is referred to as theSleeping Warrior due to its resemblance to a resting human figure. These mountains attract thousands of visitors each year which loads to the erosion of the landscape. A donation from every bottle sold of the Sleeping Warrior will be made to the National Trust for Scotland to help maintain the footpaths on Goatfell, Arran’s highest peak, for the enjoyment of all.
This limited edition of the Arran malt from 2000 vintage is bottled at natural cask strength from a combination of our finest ex-European and American oak casks selected by Master Distiller James MacTaggart.”

      Highland Park Thor
Thor, undoubtedly the most legendary of all the Norse gods, Son of Odin, the ruler of Asgard, was avidly worshipped by Viking warriors as the defender of mankind and gods alike. In fact, it was said that you can see Thor’s handiwork on Orkney, at the roughly hewn cliffs of Yesnaby on the far western shore. An epic piece of stone masonry if ever there was!
Highland Park Thor is a unique single malt, aged for 16 years and bottled the natural strength of 52.1%. Like its namesake, Thor is a meeting point of nature’s forces, exuding a dynamic and bold character on the surface, but with an unexpected softer side at its heart. This limited edition bottling comes housed in a carved wooden frame, which echoes the fearsome contours of a traditional Viking long ship.

      1824 Limited Edition
The 1824 Limited Edition draws on some of the oldest and rarest casks on The Macallan Estate. Each year’s bottling will be different and only 1824 decanters will be made for 2009. The 2009 release is bottled at 48% abv and drawn exclusively from sherry seasoned Spanish oak casks, which have been solely grown, cared for and crafted by the Tevasa cooperage. The liquid is displayed in a handcrafted crystal decanter, which has been decorated by a scottish silversmith.

Thanks. I’ll also add the “The Macallan in Lalique II: 55 Years Old” to complete this beautiful range,… up to now that is.

  4. These are the latest nominations from the old forum that where not yet validated.

Matisse Caperdonich 19 yo singlemalt. An astonishing bottle, including a vary rare whisky.

    Macallan 21 yo fine oak.
The bottle design, together with the 21 years old – fine oak – whisky makes this whisky for me a very special creation.
Whisky is my passion, birds of prey are part of my friends!

    • As the person who commissioned this series of truly amazing whisky vessels, I thought I would add a bit more background of the bottle, the artists and their work.

This past summer I began thinking about the approaching holiday season and was searching for a truly special gift idea to feature on ForWhiskeyLovers.com.  I wanted something representational of the whisky experience—words like strength, heritage, individuality, fortitude, wisdom, inspiration and integrity kept coming to mind—that was out of the ordinary and would have lasting value with years of enjoyment.

I was connected to artists David Sugar and Carol Iselin, the creative forces behind Inner Light Crystal (innerlightcrystal.com), through a friend and, after visiting their studio immediately knew I was on to something extraordinary. Sugar and Iselin’s artistic style, combined with the studio’s legacy of pushing the cutting edge of glass art technology, was perfect for what I was hoping to achieve with this commissioned set of 21 Engraved Bottles of Macallan Fine Oak 21 Year Old Whisky.
